Scales to Achieve Proper Balance

If living an active and healthy lifestyle is important to you and your family, then going to the doctor to for regular annual check ups is very important. One of the main things your doctor will check for is to see if you are maintaining a healthy weight.

Physicians will use special doctor scales that provide an accurate reading of your current weight. Your weight is an indicator of your overall health and stepping on that doctor scale can make all the difference in how your visit will go and what the doctor might recommend for improved health benefits.

Some scales include a height measurement tool that allows the doctor to check your stature. Typically, this feature is primarily used for child and teens through their developmental years.

Doctor scales come in all shapes and sizes all with the same function, to accurately pinpoint your weight. You have your standard scale that you stand on. Or, scales that you walk on like a treadmill that measures not only your weight but your BMI (Body Mass Index). For babies that can’t stand, a scale that they can lay on is what is used in today’s hospitals. However, most of us are familiar with the standard scales that the nurse has you step on to gauge your weight. It’s actually the first thing that they will ask you to do to begin your appointment. The scale might be the standard weight and measure bar or be digital. Today most physicians’s typically use a digital scale to get the most accurate reading.

Getting an accurate reading is very important for women who are pregnant. This is especially important for women who are pregnant. There can be definite consequences to gaining too much or too little weight during pregnancy. The bottom line is that appropriate weight gain ensures a healthier outcome for mom and baby. A goal is to have a steady weight gain throughout this time period. The growing newborn relies on basic nutrients that an expecting mother intakes on a daily basis. It’s common for weight to fluctuate from week to week. If your weight changes drastically up or down, that could be a warning sign. Overall, there is no need to worry about minor weight gains or loses and to focus on taking the best care possible.

Nutrition is on the forefront of everyone’s mind and is being talked about through every possible media outlet. You can’t escape all the fitness advice coming at you from all angles. A rule of thumb is to look to your physician for medical advice and to rely on experienced nutritionists to help you develop a meal plan that best fits your specific lifestyle and needs.

In today’s world, we have the ability to measure anything. Many laboratories use analytical balances, or scales, to measure the weight of liquid or small parts that require extreme precision.

Electric Fireplaces for your Home Entertainment Center

Many people consider the fireplace the focal point of the home. A fireplace signifies the family room or the common room and serves as both for its functionality and aesthetic appeal. However, now homeowners are looking to combine both their entertainment needs and their desire to have a fireplace.

If your home doesn’t have a built in fireplace, an electric fireplace is the perfect solution. Introduced in the early 1990’s, the electric fireplace became incredibly popular due to its portability, convenience and affordability. Today the market need has not slowed down and the electric fireplace is one of today’s hottest products on the market.

Home entertainment is also important to modern homeowners and one of the newest products on the market is the entertainment center and home theatre fireplaces. Basically, it uses electric fireplace inserts and it is an entertainment center all is one. They come in all kinds of colors and finishes and design inserts to choose from. You don’t have to sacrifice style when buying an electric fireplace. If you like a modern sleek look or are leaning more towards a traditional feel, there are plenty of options to choose from.

If you are a homeowner that doesn’t have a traditional fireplace or would just like to add the ambiance that a fireplace can add to a room, organize your home entertainment center with a fireplace. The home entertainment center mantels are built strong to withstand and accommodate even the biggest and heaviest TV’s on the market. Each unit offers different design insert options so that you have a place to store DVD’s, your DVD player, electronics and display items such as family photographs our your favorite classic books. Some come with adjustable shelves for flexibility.

One of the best things about electric fireplaces is that they are easy to install and need only an electrical outlet. I know many people think that heat and electronics are not a great idea. However, electric fireplaces meet all “no open flame” restrictions and are safe to use in this capacity. They also require no exterior venting and produce just enough heat to warm up a 400 square foot area. They can be used safely in any room of the home that is near a 120 volt electrical outlet. Controlled by remote control, use it in your bedroom for that extra ambiance or place in the family room for all to share.

You’ll be pleased to know that an electric fireplace is environmentally friendly than the traditional fireplace. They do not emit fumes and additional carbon dioxide into the air. Today your entertainment center and fireplace don’t have to fight for equal space in your family room. The blend perfectly to provide a homeowner both function and beauty.

The Traditional Family Business is Alive and Well on the Internet

The Traditional Family Business is Alive and Well on the Internet

We have become used to the notion that large corporate conglomerates are driving traditional mom and pop stores out of business. We hear stories about Walmart coming to town and driving out other local retailers, and turning half the town into minimum wage earners. Indeed, it can be quite daunting for a small family run business to face competition from such highly competitive and well financed corporations, but many small businesses are finding ways to survive and even thrive by expanding their customer base beyond their local area.

In 2006, Daniel Renkel was working as a general contractor and quickly became frustrated with what he says were “dead-end jobs that did not pay what I was worth.” Like many entrepreneurs, he had a strong desire to reap the full rewards of his own work, rather than continuing to work for someone else’s benefit. As he looked for a way to provide long-term job security for himself and his family, Renkel came to the conclusion that running his own business was the surest way to accomplish that goal.

Renkel started a company called Quick Supply, a specialty retail concern, in partnership with his wife and his parents. He started with 5000 square feet of warehouse space with a showroom for local customers, and a website, quicksupply.net. Unlike many of its competitors, Quick Supply actually stocks all the products that it sells instead of relying on third party drop-shippers like many other websites. Although this can be more capital intensive than a drop-shipping operation, it allows Quick Supply to provide superior customer service and faster shipping on customer orders. The entire order is handled, prepared and shipped by one of the Quick Supply employees who pride themselves on taking responsibility for each customer’s complete satisfaction. Although there are only six employees at Quick Supply, the website features a live chat option so that customers can discuss their needs in real-time with a qualified Quick Supply customer service representative.

This is just one of the reasons that Renkel’s Quick Supply is actually expanding even as many retailers are seeing sales fall due to the troubled nature of the nation’s economy. He also cites the superior quality of his web store as a reason for the company’s success. Quick Supply also chooses its product lines with care. Renkel says the company looks for products that can’t be found in most local stores, but which have a relatively high demand on the national level, or as he puts it “If Walmart has it, we have no interest in selling it.” Currently, Quick Supply carries a broad selection of environmentally friendly electric fireplaces and grills, along with commercial scales, POS equipment and medical equipment such as blood pressure monitors. Renkel sees the company completing its line of medical equipment before branching out into billiard tables and supplies.

Quick Supply’s success shows that a well-run small family business can survive and even thrive against the giant corporations, even when economic conditions make it difficult for any retailer to grow. Although the specialization that the broad reach of the internet allows has certainly helped, much of the Renkel family’s success with Quick Supply can be attributed to the one thing that family businesses have traditionally done better than the big stores – providing superior customer service with a personal touch.
